If Neill Blomkamp’s summer blockbuster, Elysium, wasn’t already on your radar, last night’s epic new trailer should definitely have had the desired effect for Sony.
The film sees Blomkamp make a very welcome return to the director’s chair following his 2009 directorial debut, District 9. And, needless to say, we’re very excited to see what he brings us next. With less than two months before the film arrives in the US, the studio have launched a great new poster, via Yahoo Movies, coming in tandem with the awesome new trailer.
The impoverished inhabitants of a ruined planet Earth fight to join the safe and pristine living conditions of the space station Elysium, where only the wealthy and healthy reside. In need of medical treatment only available on Elysium, one resident of the planet’s slums attempts to reach the space station at any cost, and his actions could offset the entire balance of haves and have-nots.
Matt Damon is our leading man for Blomkamp this time around, and he’s joined by a stellar cast, starring alongside Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, and Faran Tahir.
Blomkamp is once more directing from his own script, with Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class) producing.
Elysium will be released in regular and IMAX cinemas on August 9th in the US, with its UK release date following slightly later on 20th September. I can’t wait. Here’s the awesome new poster. And in case you missed it, I highly recommend going back to watch last night’s brilliant new trailer.
