Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s Civil War very much portrayed Iron Man as the villain (certainly in the eyes of most comic book fans anyway), but it sounds like next year’s Captain America: Civil War movie is going to be a far more even sided affair.

That makes a lot of sense – especially as Iron Man is such a beloved character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – so if Tony Stark won’t be the lead bad guy, who will be? In a recent interview, Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) has confirmed that it will indeed be Baron Zemo.

“I think it’s going to be the best one, no, no, but for real, I am very excited to see it for myself. I only worked on set for five weeks, so I wasn’t there for the majority of it, but Daniel Brühl is an incredible actor and he’s playing the main villain in it. He’s incredible. It’s a movie about people as opposed to robots this time, so it’s darker and it’s allowed to be darker because it gets more in the mindset of humans rather than machines.”

Civil War didn’t have an actual bad guy, so it could be that Baron Zemo will be the one manipulating The Avengers into taking sides, thereby bringing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to an end. That’s one heck of a plan, and while Olsen’s comments about Captain America: Civil War being “darker” are a little concerning, it’s hard not to have faith in The Russos after their work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier! We’ll find out next May regardless…
