The Power Rangers reboot has so far assembled a cast of relative unknowns to play the iconic members of the team, and after rumours of Lionsgate searching for bigger name stars to take on villainous roles in the reboot, Elizabeth Banks has signed up as Rita Repulsa.

That name should be instantly familiar to those of you who remember her from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and like her small screen counterpart, this take on the classic baddie will see her portrayed as an alien witch who has designs on ruling over the planet Earth. As a result, it’ll be up to the colourful team of heroes to stop the world from being conquered.

RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludy Lin, Naomi Scott, and Dacre Montgomery are playing the Power Rangers, and it’s not clear at this point whether the rest of the cast will be made up of fellow newcomers or stars like Banks. The Hunger Games actress’s involvement is exciting though!

Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is directing this big screen reboot of the 90s television series from a script by X-Men: First Class and Thor writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz.

Power Rangers is currently set to be released worldwide on March 24th, next year.
