Well, it’s fair to say that none of us saw this coming! After a small screen reboot back in 2011 which was cancelled/put out of its misery after just four episodes, Sony Pictures are now going to try to bring the property back to the big screen. However, with audiences now demanding more female led movies, this could actually be coming at a perfect time!

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Elizabeth Banks (the director of the very successful Pitch Perfect sequel and star of The Hunger Games) is in talks to direct this new take on Charlie’s Angels, and the search for a writer to tackle the reboot will soon be underway.

Originally a popular 1970s TV series starring Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith, the trio were later played by Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu in a 2000 movie directed by McG. However, 2003’s Charlie’s Angles: Full Throttle pretty much killed the franchise, and other than that short lived show, they’ve been in limbo ever since.

It’s obviously far too soon for details on the kind of direction this new take on Charlie’s Angels will head in, but it’s going to be interesting to see how it comes together. We also don’t know the release date at this point, and with Banks attached to helm Young Adult movie Red Queen (and possibly Pitch Perfect 3), we could end up waiting some time…
