Breathe InWith little over a month to go until this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) kicks off in earnest, and the programme launch now just weeks away, it seemed a little odd that prospective audiences still had no idea what might open the 2013 festival.

However, we now have an opening film to go with John McKay’s Not Another Happy Ending, the indie rom-com announced in April as festival closer, in the form of Drake Doremus’ Breathe In.

The film, which reunites the writer-director with Like Crazy star Felicity Jones, features another exchange student who this time alters the lives and relationships of her upstate New York host family. The film co-stars Guy Pearce and Amy Ryan, and was described as a stand-out  “in a healthy year for American cinema” by returning artistic director Chris Fujiwara.

Jones isn’t the only one of Doremus’ past collaborators to return for Breathe In. The actress is also re-joined by co-writer Ben York Jones and producers Jonathon Schwartz, Andrea Sperling, Steven M. Rales and Mark Roybal.

2013’s EIFF is set to run from the 19th to the 30th of June, and we at HeyUGuys couldn’t be more excited.
