It may be hard to believe, but Dwayne Johnson is indeed loosely attached to star in the planned big screen Baywatch remake! The wrestler turned actor has actually been linked to the project for a number of years now, and he does seem like an ideal choice to head up a modernised big screen version of the TV franchise.

The movie has attracted some serious talent behind the camera too, with Bad Teacher 2 scribe Justin Malen hired to rewrite the existing draft for directing duo Sean Anders and John Morris (We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses 2). Could hiring a team best known for comedies be a sign that this Baywatch is an action-comedy?

A previous draft saw events revolve around  a series of shark attacks that led the Baywatch team to investigate a drug-smuggling operation. Whether any of this will remain in Malen’s version is unknown.

Anders and Morris wrote We’re the Millers and other credits include Sex Drive and That’s My Boy.

There’s no word on a possible release date and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Johnson drop out of the project depending on when they hope to start shooting, especially as he’s finally been confirmed as Black Adam in upcoming DC Comics adaptation, Shazam. He also recently wrapped Fast & Furious 7.
