It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the Jumanji reboot, but Variety reports that Central Intelligence co-stars and recent MTV Movie Awards hosts Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart are in talks to star in this new take on Chris Van Allsburg’s book.

Scheduling could be an issue (especially for Johnson, who has Fast and Furious 8, Rampage, and Ballers all on the way), but it sounds like a deal could be fairly close to being made.

Jake Kasdan is directing the Jumanji reboot, and it will be released on July 28th, 2017. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner penned the screenplay based on a draft by the previou writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The original movie was released in 1995 and starred Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst. It’s not clear how closely this take will follow that.

Johnson and Hart certainly seem to share a lot of chemistry, and putting them together in a family friendly setting like this will no doubt be pretty interesting and likely has franchise potential. Again, it’s still early days, but don’t be surprised to hear something official soon.
