We are in for some real treats this summer – whether in space, in New York, in cars, on the beach, at sea and everything in between, there is something for everyone during the blockbuster season. In amongst the big guns will be the new film from Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk, for which Warner Bros. has just released a new trailer for, which you can view below.

The film is as eagerly anticipated as anything coming out in the next few months and has already been received rave notices after Nolan debuted some footage at Cinema Con back in March, even earning a standing ovation from the exhibitors who saw it. Shot on both IMAX 65 mm and 65 mm large format film stock, the film is as big in scope as anything we are going to see and looks set to continue the fine run of form Nolan has been on every since he started his career with Following.

Dunkirk tells the famous story of “Allied soldiers from Britain, Belgium, Canada, and France are surrounded by the German Army on the beaches of Dunkirk and evacuated in Operation Dynamo between 26 May and 4 June 1940, during the early stages of the Second World War.”

Speaking to Premiere in France a few months back, Nolan said of the film:

“For the soldiers embarked in the conflict, the events took place on different temporalities. On land, some stayed one week stuck on the beach. On the water, the events lasted a maximum day; and if you were flying to Dunkirk, the British spitfires would carry an hour of fuel. To mingle these different versions of history, one had to mix the temporal strata. Hence the complicated structure; Even if the story, once again, is very simple.”

The film stars relative unknowns in the lead roles – Fionn Whitehead, Aneurin Barnard, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, Tom-Glynn Carney and pop star Harry Styles making his film debut. Surrounding them is a group of well-seasoned actors including Tom Hardy (Taboo), Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient Express), Cillian Murphy (Inception), James D’Arcy (Agent Carter) and Oscar Winner Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies)

Here’s the new trailer, Dunkirk opens on July 21st.
