Drew Goddard departed Daredevil to focus on The Sinister Six for Sony, but with that spinoff seemingly scrapped in the wake of the deal between them and Marvel Studios over having Spider-Man join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it appeared as if he may be out of a job. Well, that no longer looks to be the case!

According to Latino-Review (which has since been confirmed in part by trades like The Hollywood Reporter), The Cabin in the Woods helmer is being eyed to both write and direct the Spectacular Spider-Man reboot.

This makes a lot of sense, especially as the leaked “Sony Hack” emails indicated that Sony wanted Goddard to be involved with the reboot if they did end up making a deal with Marvel. The plan is still for the movie to take place in high school, with a trilogy released over three consecutive years starting in 2017. It sounds like they’re also hoping to cast an unknown they can follow through multiple trilogies as he grows older.

The site also has some possible details, and 2017’s Spectacular Spider-Man will apparently feature Spidey taking on Iron Man in a bid to pass an “audition” to become a member of The Avengers. It’s also thought that the Sinister Six will play some sort of role, likely incorporating some of Goddard’s original plans for them.

This is all very interesting and matches up with a lot of other recent reports. Who do we think should take on the role of Spider-Man in the reboot? You can find our top ten picks for Peter Parker by clicking right here!
