Whereas most of the young adult novel adaptations have fallen short of expectations this year, things are looking much, much better for Divergent to launch a new franchise for Summit in the spring next year.
Led by Shailene Woodley, who is going from strength to strength (albeit whilst unfortunately exiting The Amazing Spider-Man 2), the upcoming blockbuster is based on the best-selling series by Veronica Roth, and the studio launched the first teaser trailer last night, via MTV.
DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a future where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
Based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth.
Starring alongside Woodley is a great cast, led by Theo James, Miles Teller, Jai Courtney, Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz, Ray Stevenson, Ansel Elgort, Christian Madsen, Amy Newbold, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, and Ben Lamb.
Neil Burger (Limitless) is at the helm here, directing from a script penned by Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) and Vanessa Taylor (Game of Thrones), based on Roth’s original novel.
Divergent will be heading into cinemas on March 21st, 2014. Here’s the first teaser trailer to set the anticipation on high.
