Minions-in-Despicable-Me-2Following on from the immensely popular original, Despicable Me 2 promises to be one of the best animated films of the year, and I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to its arrival on the big screen.

Steve Carell is back once more at the head of an impressive voice cast, and after catching a great teaser trailer last spring and the brilliant first trailer late last year, a great new image of Gru’s little minions has debuted over at USA Today.

“Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s worldwide blockbuster, Despicable Me, delighted audiences around the globe in 2010, grossing more than $540 million and becoming the 10th-biggest animated motion picture in U.S. history. In Summer 2013, get ready for more minion madness in Despicable Me 2. Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed filmmaking team create an all-new comedy animated adventure featuring the return of Gru (Steve Carell), the girls, the unpredictably hilarious minions…and a host of new and outrageously funny characters.”

Voicing the characters alongside Carell will be Kristen Wiig, Russell Brand, Al Pacino, and Steve Coogan, with Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Kate Fisher returning to voice those adorable little kids.

Co-directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud return behind the camera, directing from a script by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul.

Despicable Me 2 will be hitting the UK on 28th June this summer, with its US release date set a week later for 3rd July, just in time for Independence Day. And let’s not forget that the minions will be getting a spin-off movie, expected to hit in 2014. So we’ve got plenty to look forward to over the next couple of years. I can’t wait. For now, here’s the great new image. And be sure to go back and watch that first trailer to remind yourself of what’s to come.
