The success of The Walking Dead has resulted in AMC giving the green light to what is being described as a “companion” series to the popular zombie drama, and the first character descriptions of the six leads have been revealed today. None of those listed below are from the Robert Kirman penned comic book however!

That actually makes a lot of sense as the focus of that has always been on Rick Grimes and his fellow survivors in that, something which the TV show has stuck to adapting pretty closely for the most part so far.

As you can see from the descriptions below, it appears as if the focus of the currently untitled spin-off will be on two families – and one straggler – presumably meaning that the series will have a much tighter focus than The Walking Dead with a smaller main cast of characters rather than a large group of survivors.

Rumour has it that the series will be set at the start of the outbreak, a time we haven’t seen explored in The Walking Dead due to the fact that the show kicked off months after it had already begun when Rick woke up from a coma. Check out the descriptions and then let us know your thoughts in the comments section!

SEAN CABRERA: A Latino male in his early 40s, Sean is a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life.

CODY CABRERA: Sean’s whip-smart and rebellious teenage son. Known as the angriest kid in town.

NANCY TOMPKINS: A thirtysomething single mom to two kids, Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.

NICK TOMPKINS: Nancy’s screwed up teenage son. He’s too old to stay home, too scared to flee.

ASHLEY TOMPKINS: Nancy’s mostly level-headed teenage daughter. Her ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother’s failures. She loves her mom but it’s time to get out of Dodge.

ANDREA CHAPMAN: A somewhat wilted flower child, fortysomething Andrea — yep, another Andrea! — has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage.
