Eric-Bana-and-Sean-Harris-in-Deliver-Us-From-EvilEric Bana takes front and centre in Deliver Us From Evil, marking the latest in the low-budget horror genre, hitting our screens later this year.

Most films like this tend to open either at the start of the year or sometime around Halloween, but Screen Gems and Sony have opted for a summer bow, which suggests they’ve got a lot of faith in the crime horror/thriller.

With just a few more months to go, we’ve got a handful of images to share, giving us a look at Bana and co-star Édgar Ramírez leading the charge.

In DELIVER US FROM EVIL, New York police officer Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana), struggling with his own personal issues, begins investigating a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes.  He joins forces with an unconventional priest (Édgar Ramírez), schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are terrorizing their city.  Based upon the book, which details Sarchie’s bone-chilling real-life cases.

Olivia Munn, Joel McHale, Sean Harris, and Chris Coy complete the cast nicely.

Scott Derrickson returns behind the camera for his follow-up to 2012’s incredibly successful low-budget horror, Sinister, which turned its $3m. budget into almost $90m. at the box office.

Derrickson reunites with past collaborator Paul Harris Boardman (Devil’s Knot, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) to co-write the script, with the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer producing.

Deliver Us From Evil will be hitting US cinemas on July 2nd, in time for the big holiday weekend in the States, before heading across the Atlantic for a 22nd August UK release date. Whilst we await the first trailer, here are the new images, which you can click through to enlarge.
