Drax is one of the finest creations to have come out of the MCU, and so needless to say it was our pleasure to meet the man behind him – interviewing Dave Bautista to mark the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.

While discussing his latest venture, we also asked which of the Avengers he was most looking forward to fans seeing him with, when the Guardians cross-over in Infinity War – and he gave the answer we all sort of expected; Iron Man.

“”Tony Stark, it’s just a no-brainer,” he said. “With Drax being so deadpan and literal and Tony Stark being such a sarcastic smart-ass, it makes for good funny entertaining scenes.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 movie imageBeyond that, Guardians 3 has been announced, and Bautista is hoping to see more of his character’s background fleshed out – beginning with the arrival of Moondragon.

“We’ve talked about it, he [James Gunn] wants to tell the story as well, it’s all about whether it fits into the storyline and the premise of the film, and if there’s room to focus on it,” he continued. “It’s getting into deep stuff because Drax obviously is suffering over the loss of his family. I don’t know how they could tell that story but if anyone could, it would be him and selfishly I’m hoping for the opportunity to do that. But at the end of the day its up to James Gunn and Marvel.”

We also discussed with the former WWE star about his deadpan delivery and how often his co-stars fell about laughing on set, and what it was like sitting in a sauna every single day after a day’s shoot. He compares the fans of the MCU to those he encountered from his days wrestling, discusses the fact he’s always learning as an actor, from project to project.
