Brandon Cronenberg looks to be following in his father’s footsteps, with his debut feature, Antiviral, premiering at Cannes over the weekend to solid reviews.

Starring Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class), Sarah Gadon (David Cronenberg’s upcoming Cosmopolis), and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), the festival’s site has debuted the impressive first clip to give us a tease of what we can look forward to.

“Syd March is an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Biological communion – for a price. Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate.”

Antiviral, written and directed by Cronenberg, doesn’t yet have a release date set, but Momentum Pictures have already picked it up for UK distribution, which is excellent news for our shores. Debuting with praising reviews at Cannes, it will hopefully secure US distribution in the next few days/weeks, and with a bit of luck, we’ll have a firm release date to look forward to soon. Until then, the first clip for your viewing pleasure.
