Dane DeHaan Discusses Harry Osborn’s Arc in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now only a few months away, but despite an Easter egg filled teaser trailer (a breakdown of which you can read by clicking here), there’s still an awful lot we don’t know about the Marc Webb helmed sequel. For example, what will Dane DeHaan’s take on Harry Osborn consist of exactly?

Common sense says that the character’s relationship with Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) will have to differ to what we saw in Sam Raimi’s franchise, and that seemingly involves Harry taking on the Green Goblin mantle before his father. While DeHaan didn’t address that in a recent interview with Digital Spy, he did have this to say about Harry’s arc in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

“When you first meet Harry he’s just graduated from high school, and he has to come back to New York to help deal with Oscorp, and its legacy, and his father [Norman Osborn, played by Chris Cooper]. He also sees Peter Parker for the first time in a long time; they were childhood friends. So it’s really about Harry having a friendship with Peter and an allegiance to Peter, but also being the heir apparent to Oscorp, and having to deal with that. It’s becoming very obvious that all of these villains are originating from within Oscorp, in one way or the other. There are things that Harry feels he owes Peter, and things he needs from Peter, there are things he feels he needs from Spider-Man, and then there’s his responsibility to Oscorp. It’s a very complicated storyline, really cool and dynamic.”

As for how exactly adding the friendship of Harry Osborn to the life of Peter Parker (who was fairly isolated in the first instalment) will impact the character, DeHaan added:

“Yeah, and it’s a friendship that… I mean, they haven’t been friends for such a long time, but they definitely both feel like they used to be best friends, and ideally they would love to rekindle that friendship.”

The following wallpaper was released through Sony’s “Amazing Spider-Fans” campaign, and it offers up a new look at Emma Stone as Gwen Stay in Oscorp Tower. This confirms that the character will still be working at the shady corporation, surely putting her in danger when Electro and the Green Goblin attack!
