Two kids steal a cop car for a joyride, and the cop chases them – it’s a simple premise, but the film suitably entitled Cop Car was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival at the start of the year and sees a welcome release this side of the Atlantic.

The film’s co-writer and director Jon Watts is now far better known as the director of the forthcoming Spider-Man reboot but his high concept thriller played wonderfully well on the festival circuit and now heads to the UK in October.

Kevin Bacon is joined by the film’s young stars James Freedson-Jackson and Hays Wellford and it is far from a one note film, with a remarkably intense story playing out before you. The clip we’ve got here is one moment among many where Watts delivers some great visual storytelling.

Our review of the film is here, and you can watch the clip below,

Synopsis

A pair of ten-year olds find an abandoned cop car in a field but when they take it for a joyride it seems like they could kill themselves at any moment. But things only get worse when the small town sheriff goes looking for his missing car.

The kids find themselves in the centre of a deadly game of cat and mouse they don’t understand and the only way out is to go as fast as their cop car can take them.

Cop Car is out on digital HD on the 5th of October and on DVD and Blu-ray on the 19th of October.
