Wonder Woman has already assembled an impressive cast which includes Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, and Lucy Davis, but now the DC Comics adaptation has added Connie Nielsen.

The Danish actress (who is perhaps best known for playing a Roman queen in Gladiator) is upgrading to the queen of the Amazons as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman’s mother, Hippoyta.

Nielsen has also appeared in The Following, The Good Wife, and Nymphomaniac, Vol. 1.

It was previously reported that this is the role Nicole Kidman was in talks for – which was later given to Wright – so it obviously now remains to be seen who the House of Cards star is playing. A recent interview with her daughter pointed to some sort of superhero though!

Regardless, with a World War I setting and female lead, Wonder Woman looks set to be the most unique (and exciting) comic book movie we’ve seen in quite some time. The character will first be seen in this March’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will factor into Justice League in a major way following the release of her solo outing on June 23rd, 2017.
