Despite how impressive the first few trailers for True Detective were, it’s fair to say that no one could have ever predicted just how huge the critically acclaimed series would become, creating intense speculation and theories online, and later the extremely funny #TrueDetectiveSeason2 hashtag.

Despite both being nominated for Emmys and a host of other awards, neither Matthew McConaughey or Woody Harrelson will return for season two of True Detective after their stories were wrapped up in the first eight episodes. A number of names have since been suggested and rumoured to replace them.

Well, we finally have something a little more definite as Deadline reports that Seven Psychopaths and Saving Mr. Banks star Colin Farrell is deep in talks for one of what is expected to be three main roles.

HedlundThe Irish actor looks set to be joined by John Carter and Savages star Taylor Kitsch who The Wrap adds is among the leading candidates for the younger male lead. It’s expected that they will be joined by a female lead, though there is currently no word on who that could possibly be.

They add that TRON: Legacy’s Garrett Hedlund has also been considered for this role, but Kitsch has emerged as the frontrunner. As of right now, Farrell is the one closes to signing up for the series.

There are also no details on the characters that Farrell and Kitsch might be playing, and it’s unlikely we’ll know more until much closer to when they actually start shooting.
