Hot off the divisive second season of HBO’s True Detective, Colin Farrell has joined the cast of upcoming Harry Potter prequel/spinnoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The Irish actor joins a cast which so far includes Eddie Redmayne as lead character Newt Scamander, as well as Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol. Farrell will play Graves, a wizard Newt meets in New York. The story centers on Newt’s adventures in the secret community of witches and wizards as he attempts to document magical creatures. The events of Fantastic Beasts take place 70 years before the Harry Potter movies.

Regular Harry Potter director David Yates (who is currently hard at work on his live-action Tarzan reboot) is set to helm this movie, and the script was penned by author J.K. Rowling.

Farrell also recently starred in Horrible Bosses, In Bruges, Saving Mr. Banks, and Seven Psychopaths. He will next be seen alongside Anthony Hopkins in Solace. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is currently set to be released on November 18th, 2016.
