Much to the chagrin of fans of the original quadrilogy, producer Joel Silver is still working on bringing a Lethal Weapon reboot to the big screen. It now sounds like it may be one step closer to becoming a reality as Thor: The Dark World and Rush star Chris Hemsworth has reportedly been offered the lead role!

The Tracking Board claims that the actor will play the son of an older cop in the movie, and that older cop will more than likely be Mel Gibson’s Riggs from the original series of Lethal Weapon films.

Does that mean Gibson will return for a cameo? That’s not clear as of right now, but they’re clearly putting some serious effort into the casting of the reboot which will apparently be called Lionhunters.

Fast & Furious director Justin Lin is attached to direct the Lethal Weapon reboot from a script written by detective turned screenwriter Will Beall (Gangster Squad).

It’s been reported in the past that Shane Black – the writer of Iron Man 3 and the creator of the original movie which starred Danny Glover as Murtaugh and Mel Gibson as Martin Riggs in 1987 – has a role in the direction of the movie. How would you feel about Hemsworth starring in Lionhunters?
