Casey-AffleckIt’s been no small secret that Christopher Nolan has been assembling an absolutely terrific cast for his next feature, Interstellar.

The writer-director began by casting Matthew McConaughey for his follow-up to last year’s epic franchise-concluder, The Dark Knight Rises. And since then, he’s built up the cast alongside McConaughey by reuniting with Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine, and adding Jessica Chastain to the line-up.

In a short interview with Elle, at the NY premiere of David Lowery’s acclaimed and anticipated Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Casey Affleck revealed that he’s also joined the cast. When asked about what he’s currently working on, Affleck replied,

“I’ve got a movie coming out at Thanksgiving called Out of the Furnace, and I’m going to work on a Chris Nolan movie in the fall.”

Affleck has long been one of my favourite actors. You need only see his performances in the likes of Gone Baby Gone and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford to understand why.

And hearing that he’s joined the cast for Nolan’s Interstellar is absolutely fantastic news.

For the moment, the following snippet is all we’ve got to go on on the film’s specifics.

The film will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding.

Nolan is penning the script, merging an original idea of his own with the previous script first written by his brother and frequent collaborator, Jonathan Nolan.

And with McConaughey, Hathaway, Chastain, Caine, and now Affleck lined up for the cast, you can’t help but feel it’s going to be another hugely successful movie for the writer-director, who has so many under his belt already.

Fans of Gone Baby Gone will also be pleased to know that Affleck notes in the same interview that he and brother Ben Affleck are working on another movie together. And though it sounds like it’s still a long way off, it’s definitely something to get excited about as well:

“We are developing one thing together that he would direct, and I would act in, but it’s very far off. We both had a good experience in the last one, first time around.”

Interstellar will be released in regular and IMAX theatres on November 7th, 2014, and you can be sure it’s going to be epic. I can’t wait.
