The recently released trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse (catch our breakdown by clicking here if you missed it) ended on a high note by offering up a glimpse of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine seemingly back within the confines of Weapon X. He has his Adamantium claws back anyway, and it’s going to be interesting seeing how Bryan Singer explains his return.

“Make of that what you want,” he teased in a recent interview. “I will say, it’s not simple. There’s something more pivotal that occurs with that. It hints to a sequence that again fits within the canon of all six movies, and the birth of a new direction. It’s not insignificant, nor is it simply just a throw-in… It’s not the only shot you’re gonna see, let’s put it that way.”

It sounds like whatever this cameo consists of is going to be a pretty big deal then, and with Jackman set to make his final appearance as the clawed mutant in a solo outing next year, chances are that whatever happens in X-Men: Apocalypse could help set up the events of that movie in some way. It’s also possible that Logan will end up having more than a cameo!

After all, Wolverine not playing any sort of role in the final battle against Apocalypse would be very strange, but even if that isn’t the case, it seems as if we can at least expect to see the hero do more than just slash his way through a bunch of William Stryker’s men. Thinking back to how X-Men: Days of Future Past ended, Singer has a lot of explaining to do anyway…
