It’s been rumoured for some time, but Bryan Singer has now confirmed that there are indeed plans in place for a crossover between the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises…if the former ends up being a hit that is!

Stories recently started doing the rounds that the X-Men: Apocalypse helmer is going to direct the crossover, and while he didn’t comment on that, the filmmaker did have this to say about the movie. “Those ideas are in play. That would be a natural match-up because they’re both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it.” That’s great news, but how exactly would such a movie end up working?

After all, it’s been said in the past that the two sets of heroes don’t exist in the same universe, but Singer might just have a solution to unite the franchises. “It deals with time,” he says. “That’s all I’m going to say.”

That’s very interesting, and it would make at least some sense for either the Fantastic Four or X-Men to travel through time to meet the other team. However, this movie happening depends on next month’s Fantastic Four being a success, and with the negative buzz surrounding the movie thanks to fans who would rather see the franchise back at Marvel Studios, there’s really no guarantee that Josh Trank’s reboot will be!

“We’ll have to see how the films turn out,” Singer admits. “To just say you’re going to do it would be a mistake, you have to see how the films evolve before you make that decision to completely commit to that.”
