Though its popularity has waned in recent years, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is still a big earner for Disney with a total of $3.7 billion made over the course of four movies since the first one hit in 2003.

Work on the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie (which will be subtitled, “Dead Men Tell No Tales”) continues, with The Giver and Maleficent star Brenton Thwaites in talks to co-star alongside Johnny Depp.

Details about who Thwaites will play are being kept under wraps, but we do know that he’s a British soldier called Henry and likely an ally to Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. The Australian actor won’t have to travel far though, as pre-production on Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is already taking place down under.

Javier Bardem is still in talks to play the villainous Captain Brand, and this latest report reveals that his character is a ghost looking for revenge against Sparrow as he blames him for the death of his brother.

Geoffrey Rush returns as Captain Barbossa and Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner is also rumoured to make a comeback. Kon-Tiki helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will direct Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Jerry Bruckheimer is again back to produce. It’s set to be released on July 7th, 2017.
