The Blade Runner sequel was originally set to be released on January 12, 2018, but the movie is now coming our way quite a bit sooner as it has been rescheduled for 2017.

Directed by Prisoners and Sicario helmer Denis Villeneuve, the currently untitled Blade Runner 2 is now coming our way on October 6th, 2017! That’s a pretty big shift, though no reason has been given for the change. Alcon Entertainment clearly want to get the movie in cinemas sooner rather than later though, and October is a pretty good month for sci-fi.

So far, the cast of this Blade Runner sequel includes Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, House of Cards star Robin Wright, and WWE Superstar turned Guardian of the Galaxy and Bond baddie, Dave Bautista. Ford is reprising the role of Rick Deckard, but plot details are currently being kept under wraps. Sir Ridley Scott will be involved as a producer too.

Written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, Blade Runner 2 succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples, and is based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. With a release date now set, more details will hopefully be revealed in the coming months, especially as shooting is expected to begin at some point later this year.
