The-Great-Gatsby-Carey-Mulligan-Character-PosterThe Great Gatsby is shaping up to be one of the most prominent and anticipated blockbusters that Summer 2013 has to offer.

If the first trailer is anything to go by, Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation is sure to be bring equal doses of beauty and tragedy to the big screen next May. With just under half a year to go before it arrives, Warner Bros. have begun gearing up for the release.

The past few days have seen a brilliant new set of character posters for Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton, Elizabeth Debicki, and most recently Tobey Maguire. And now the studio have released the beautiful poster for Carey Mulligan, who stars as Daisy Buchanan, and whose poster we can presume is the penultimate of the set.

“From the uniquely imaginative mind of writer/producer/director Baz Luhrmann comes the new big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby. The filmmaker will create his own distinctive visual interpretation of the classic story, bringing the period to life in a way that has never been seen before, in a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role. “The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.”

Leonardo DiCaprio, Mulligan, and Maguire star in the leading trio, with fine support coming from Fisher, Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Debicki, and Amitabh Bachchan, for one of the best casts of 2013.

Luhrmann is once more directing from a script he co-wrote with past collaborator Craig Pearce (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet), adapting the seminal novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

The Great Gatsby will be released in 3D on 10th May, 2013 in the US, with its UK release date set for a week later on 17th May. I can’t wait. This is all but guaranteed to be one of my favourite films of next year. For now, here’s the latest character poster in the set, and hopefully we’ll have DiCaprio’s final instalment later tonight.
