At the end of July last year Lars Von Trier finally gave us a hint of what to expect when we sit down to watch his new film Melancholia, and a happy ending was obviously not on the cards. But nothing he said, nor anything we knew about this film prepared me for the power of this trailer.

Released via the film’s official website this trailer for ‘A beautiful movie about the end of the world’ is pretty amazing with a terrible story, about a previously hidden planet now on course to hit the Earth, unfolding with some beautiful and haunting images.

The impressive cast includes Kirsten Dunst, John Hurt, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Keifer Sutherland, Stellan Skarsgard and Charlotte Rampling and this trailer gives us a good indication of where they all fit within the story. But hey, enough of my yakking – here’s the trailer.
