Actors who have played superheroes on the small screen have had mixed success in the years which followed; after all, what are Dean Cain and Tom Welling up to these days? Things are going a little better for Arrow star Stephen Amell however, as he’s landed a major role in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel.

Arrow is currently in its third season and will return this Autumn with a fourth. Ratings are still going strong.

Amell will play fan-favourite character Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, and he’s described as a loner who becomes an ally of the turtles and a love interest for April O’Neil (Megan Fox). Michael Bay is again producing, but David Green will step in as director. Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are writing.

Variety reports that the Arrow was among a number of actors who tested for this coveted role in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, but it was the chemistry he shared with Fox which helped him to seal the deal.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot was released last year and ended up being a box office hit, despite tepid reviews (not that that’s ever hurt the Transformers franchise). The sequel hits cinemas in 2016!
