Sean Ellis’ Anthropoid joins the recent examples of Bryan Singer’s Valkyrie and 2014’s The Monuments Men in taking a real life story of heroism from the second world war and translating it to the big screen. Last year’s powerful Son of Saul offered a harrowing account of a tale oft-told, underlining the need for us to keep telling these stories.

Anthropoid takes us through the plot to assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich, one of the main architects of the Final Solution and the closest ranking man behind Hitler and Himmler.  50 Shades of Grey’s Jamie Dornan joins Cillian Murphy as our two leads in Ellis’ film. HeyUGuys favourite Harry Lloyd also appears, as does all round legend Toby Jones.

We’ve got the first look at the film’s new trailer, which you can see beneath the synopsis,

ANTHROPOID is based on the extraordinary true story of Operation Anthropoid, the World War II mission to assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich. The Reich’s third in command after Hitler and Himmler, Heydrich was the main architect behind the Final Solution and the leader of occupying Nazi forces in Czechoslovakia whose reign of terror prompted self-exiled Czech and Slovak soldiers (Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan) to hatch a top-secret mission that would change the face of Europe forever.

The film is out on the 12th of August in the US and the 9th of September here in good old Blighty.
