It’s no secret that buying up an advertising slot in the Super Bowl will cost your company an arm, a leg, and a good few million dollars. With estimates putting a 30-second slot at an average of m. or more, excluding the costs of making the ad itself, not everyone is going to be able to afford to shell out that kind of money. And Newcastle Brown Ale is one company that chose to go in a different direction, launching an ingenious parody ad with Anna Kendrick on YouTube instead.

That way, not only are they not paying for the advertising time, but they’re probably also making money from the video’s 4 million views, and counting.

Anna Kendrick is easily one of my favourite actresses to have emerged in the past five years, and one of my favourite of all time.

Her Oscar-nominated performance in Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air really put her on everyone’s radar, and with blockbusters like The Twilight Saga and the sorely-underrated Scott Pilgrim vs. the World balancing nicely alongside more independent work in the likes of 50/50, End of Watch, and more recently Drinking Buddies.

She went to Sundance this year with The Voices, Life After Beth, and Happy Christmas, and is also set to be seen this year in Get a Job, The Last 5 Years, and Disney’s anticipated Christmas blockbuster, Into the Woods, before going back to college for round two in Pitch Perfect 2 next year.

Needless to say, she’s heads and shoulders above essentially all of her peers, and continues to impress with everything she does, including this brilliant new ad. Enjoy.
