According to a new report, Marvel are definitely interested in Angelina Jolie directing Captain Marvel.

That was first rumoured earlier this year, but this update comes from a more reliable source, and it should be interesting to see how this develops, especially as the movie recently found a pair of screenwriters (details on that can be found here). This would obviously be a major departure compared to the other projects taken on by the actress turned director,  but could be the perfect way to get Jolie into blockbuster territory.

Not too long ago, Jolie was frequently suggested by comic book fans for the role of Captain Marvel, but with that time passing, it would be hard to complain about her being behind the camera instead after Unbroken.

That’s strictly a rumour for now anyway, but in some more solid news, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Patty Jenkins (Monster) has signed on to direct Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. following Michelle MacLaren’s shocking departure less than 48 hours ago. Jenkins was set to direct Thor: The Dark World for Marvel before creative differences led to them parting ways. That’s what led to MacLaren leaving this too!

Warner Bros. and Jenkins clearly see eye to eye however, and fans who were hoping that Wonder Woman would land a female director should be very happy with this news. Had Warner Bros. chosen a male filmmaker after MacLaren left, the response probably wouldn’t have been good. Gal Gadot is set to reprise her Batman v Superman role as Wonder Woman in this solo outing which is set to be released in 2017.
