Russell has assembled an even bigger and better cast this time around, reuniting with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence after Silver Linings Playbook, and setting them alongside Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Jeremy Renner for a fantastic ensemble.

With just a few more weeks to go before the film heads into cinemas across the Atlantic, Sony has launched a new TV spot, following on nicely from the first full trailer that debuted last month.

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock the States, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.

The leading quintet are joined by an equally promising supporting cast, led by Robert De Niro, Jack Huston, Louis C.K., Michael Peña, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, and Alessandro Nivola.

Russell is directing from a script he co-wrote with Eric Warren Singer (The International), and with Megan Ellison and Charles Roven producing, and such a stellar cast assembled, this was always going to be an Oscar heavyweight heading towards the end of the year.

American Hustle will begin its limited release in the US on December 13th, before going wide on December 18th. Here in the UK, it’s set to open in London on 20th December, and then expand across the country on 3rd January.
