The new trailer for Michael Cuesta’s American Assassin which sees Dylan O’Brien as a fledgeling CIA recruit with Michael Keaton, a Cold War Veteran, as his instructor take the fight to stop a lone terrorist threat causing a world war in the Middle East has made an appearance.

Piecing together his memories of losing his parents at 14 O’Brien’s Mitch seems to have had a turbulent upbringing from being kicked out of boarding school and eventually landing on the doorstep of the CIA. The trailer, in which we see O’Brien, angry at the loss of his girlfriend to a terrorist attack on a beach just after proposing, take on the instruction of Keaton’s Stan Hurley at what can only be described at a deadly school for assassins after being sent there by the CIA.

Based in the 15-book Mitch Rapp series by author Vince Flynn, O’Brien and Keaton star alongside Sanaa Lathan as the deputy director of the CIA and David Suchet and is directed by Michael Cuesta (Kill the Messenger) with Stephen Schill, Michael Finch, Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz on writing duties with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler are the producers.

American Assassin is in UK cinemas 15th September.

AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair are then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.
