Based on the award winning novel from Jeff VanderMeer, Garland will yet again take the helm after penning the screenplay in a sci-fi thriller which focuses on a biologist who leads a team of scientists into mysterious terrain known as “Area X” where nature has reclaimed the land. There, they face contamination, disappearances, and deadly creatures.

Garland certainly has a knack for attracting some great actors to join the cast, Annihilation will be lead by Natalie Portman as The Biologist, Jennifer Jason Leigh as the Psychologist, Gina Rodriquez as Anya Thorensen, the Anthropologist, Tessa Thompson as the surveyor and will even see Garland team up again with Oscar Isaac as plays the biologists husband.

Annihilation

Even VanderMeer has stated how impressive Garland’s film adaptation of his book is, laying on the praise thick and even approving of the little changes made from his own original version

It’s actually more surreal than the novel. There are a couple places where I was like, ‘I might need an anchor here.’ The ending is so mind-blowing and in some ways different from the book that it seems to be the kind of ending that, like 2001 or something like that, people will be talking about around the watercooler for years… Visually, it’s amazing. I must say that and that’s all I probably should say.”

Alex Garland’s second full-length feature Annihilation will be released in cinemas February 2018
