It seems like we’re one step closer to finding out who will play the young Han Solo as Deadline is reporting that Alden Ehrenreich has emerged as the frontrunner for the role.

The trade reveals that screen tests narrowed down the contenders to a handful of actors which included names like Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor, but it’s the Hail, Caesar! star who apparently delivered an impressive enough performance to really impress Lucasfilm.

The 26 year old has also had fairly minor roles in Blue Jasmine and Stoker, but it’s really this past year that his career has begun taking off. Next up for him is Warren Beatty’s still untitled “Howard Hughes project” which is currently set to be released by Fox this Autumn.

The Lego Movie and 22 Jump Street helmers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing this Han Solo movie, while Lawrence Kasdan (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) penned the screenplay with his son, Joe. Plot details are a closely guarded secret, but it’s obviously going to be a prequel which focuses on the character years before he met Luke and company.

Rumour has it that Han will make a cameo appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so official casting news will hopefully be released soon. Is Ehrenreich a good fit? Time will tell!
