Ain't-Them-Bodies-Saints-DVD-CoverLauded as one of the finest films of last year, David Lowery’s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints will be released on DVD here in the UK next week. And ahead of its arrival, we’ve got an exclusive addendum of deleted scenes and fragments to share, giving a look at lost moments from the film.

Led by Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, the romantic crime-drama opened to a very warm welcome at its Sundance bow, walking away from the festival with two awards in its pocket.

And after a limited theatrical release on our shores back in September, it will be a great feeling to see it arriving on our shelves on Monday. The feature below notes that, for various reasons, these moments didn’t make it into the final cut, but are presented here instead to augment our memory of the film, and for posterity.

Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara), an impassioned young outlaw couple on an extended crime spree, are finally apprehended by lawmen after a shootout in the Texas hills. Although Ruth wounds a local officer, Bob takes the blame. But four years later, Bob escapes from prison and sets out to find Ruth and their daughter, born during his incarceration.

Set against the backdrop of 1970s Texas Hill Country, director David Lowery paints a poetic picture, evoking the mythology of westerns and saturating the dramatic space with an aching sense of loss. Featuring powerful performances by Affleck, Mara as well as Ben Foster and Keith Carradine, AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS is a story of love, motherhood and searching for peace while faced with an unrelenting past.

Ben Foster completes the leading trio opposite Affleck and Mara, with Keith Carradine and Nate Parker rounding out the cast nicely.

Lowery directs from his own script, with producers James M. Johnston and Toby Halbrooks winning the Indian Paintbrush Producer’s Award out in Park City for their work on the film.

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints is available on DVD from Monday, 10th February.
