As Comic-Con draws near, more and more details about some exciting upcoming Marvel projects are being revealed. For example, the first poster has now been released for Disney XD’s animated series starring the Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie was an unexpected hit last year, so a cartoon really isn’t that surprising!

It’s not set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but might as well be based on the official description for the show. Guardians of the Galaxy follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe. Sounds like the MCU, right?

It’s already been confirmed that it isn’t, but the inspiration it’s taking from the James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is clear. Regardless, it’s set to premiere on September 26th, so stay tuned for more updates on that.

In other Marvel TV news, a very cool Comic-Con exclusive poster has been released for the anticipated third season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (don’t forget to check out our spoilery interview with Agent Coulson himself, Clark Gregg, by clicking here). The piece was illustrated by rtist Jim Cheung and colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr.
