The utterly immense first trailer for Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 landed first thing this morning, and if you haven’t seen it yet, I can’t recommend enough how much you should watch it now.

The film is the first in Marvel’s Phase Two, following the mammoth blockbuster that has been Joss Whedon’s The Avengers this year, with Robert Downey, Jr. returning once more as Tony Stark / Iron Man, and following on from the brilliant first trailer, a handful of new images have surfaced, including a hi-res look at Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin.

“Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”

The film looks to be a pretty dark story to kick off Phase Two, and we can’t wait. The prospect is awesome.

Downey, Jr. takes the lead alongside an all-star cast, headed up by Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau, and Kingsley, with Paul Bettany expected to reprise his role as the voice of JARVIS.

Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) has taken over at the helm in Favreau’s place, for what promises to be another brilliant partnership with Downey, Jr., directing from a script he co-wrote with rising new talent, Drew Pearce.

Iron Man 3 is set for release in 3D on 26th April, 2013 here in the UK, followed by a 3rd May release over in the US. It’s going to be immense. For now, here are the great new images, which you can click through to enlarge. (And be sure to check out the epic first trailer if you missed it earlier or want to watch it again. And again. It is mind-blowingly awesome.)
