Luke Cage

Netflix and Marvel recently unveiled their plans to create a number of 13-episode series’ featuring Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, culminating in The Defenders (further details can be found in the full press release by clicking here). The question now is which actors will be chosen to portray these iconic characters; will they go for young unknowns – similar to Stephen Amell in Arrow – or will Nexflix bring big names to these as they’ve done with shows like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black? We don’t know at this point, but here are five casting suggestions featuring actors you will without a doubt recognise, for Luke Cage! Stay tuned as we’ll be bringing you similar lists for the other heroes listed above in the coming days too.

5. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

LC4

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has conquered the world of professional wrestling and big screen action blockbusters, but will he fulfil his dream of playing Luke Cage by coming to television? It seems unlikely, especially as he’s earning big bucks by kicking butt in franchises like G.I. Joe and Fast & Furious, but if he could somehow be convinced, Johnson would make for an incredible Luke Cage. Unlike a lot of other wrestlers, he didn’t struggle when it came to “real” acting, instead thriving as both a tough guy and a genuinely good actor more than capable of delivering real heart in his performances. It’s easy to imagine Johnson as both the man wrongly accused of a crime he didn’t commit and later the one imbued with powers which give him super strength and bulletproof skin. His fans are desperate to see him take on a superhero role, so here’s hoping Marvel and Disney can convince him that this is a role worth taking some time away from Hollywood for.
