We were all looking forward to Nintendo announcing a re-designed 3DS with a second thumb stick at this years E3. Then E3 came and went with no such announcement. Nintendo thought it would be a good plan to wait until today to announce that there is indeed a new model of the 3DS, but not what we were hoping for. That’s right, expect to get even bigger headaches with the newly announced 3DS XL. Sure a bigger screen to enjoy the glasses less 3D is a good thing, but where the hell is that second thumb stick?

The new XL version will mean the top 3D screen is now 4.88 Inches but the resolution stays the same. The XL will also have increased battery life, addressing one of the major woes I had with the original 3DS. For those of you who like colours, there will be a red and blue version released with a silver one in the works. The 3DS XL is set to release on August 19 and retail at around $ 199.99 Check out the images below. It looks cool for sure, but I can’t help but think this is a wasted opportunity.
