Eva-Green-in-300-Rise-of-an-EmpireThe anticipated 300: Rise of an Empire, the prequel/sequel to Zack Snyder’s 300, will be hitting theatres in the height of summer this year.

Until recently, Warner Bros. have been fairly quiet, with only a few set photos surfacing through production. But with the film’s August release date fast approaching, the campaign is starting to open up. And now the studio have debuted the first two hi-res images, giving us our first look at leading man, Sulliver Stapleton. And with them comes a third image from EW, via Popculturology, giving us a first look at the ever-brilliant Eva Green.

After Xerxes’ father, Darius, is killed by the Greeks during the Battle of Marathon, he seeks to become a God and eventually comes face to face with Athenian commander Themistocles.

Eva Green will star as Artemisia, with Sullivan Stapleton starring opposite as Themistocles. And they’re joined by a great cast, led by Callan Mulvey and Jack O’Connell, with Rodrigo Santoro and Lena Headey reprising their roles from the original film.

Noam Murro (Smart People) is behind the camera this time around, directing from a script co-written by Snyder and Kurt Johnstad (300), based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel, Xerxes.

Strictly speaking, the film is not a prequel or a sequel, as such, but rather a ‘sidequel’, with Murro’s movie taking place at approximately the same time as events in Snyder’s original 300.

300: Rise of an Empire will be released on August 2nd in the US and UK. With less than four months to go until it hits, you can be sure the first trailer will be hitting very soon.
