Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina arrives in UK theatres today, after an anticipated build-up over the last few months that has teased plenty of beauty and brilliance in what promises to be most likely the best period drama of the year.

Keira Knightley stars as the eponymous Anna Karenina, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jude Law completing the leading trio, and after interviewing the stars at the UK premiere earlier this week, we’ve now got three beautiful new TV spots to share.

“The third collaboration of Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley with director Joe Wright, following the award-winning box office successes “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” is the epic love story “Anna Karenina,” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (“Shakespeare in Love”). The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.”

The Oscar-winning Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love) has penned the script from which Wright directs, adapting the classic original novel by Leo Tolstoy, with Matthew Macfadyen, Olivia Williams, Kelly Macdonald, Emily Watson, Domhnall Gleeson, and Holliday Grainger completing the cast.

The film is being given a slightly later release in the US, which is likely indicative of Universal’s intent to give the film an awards push. We’ve not had many period dramas this year, and these are the ones that often sweep the Best Costume Design and similar categories at the Oscars, not to mention Knightley likely getting nominated for Best Actress. Time will tell, but things are looking excellent.

Anna Karenina has been released in UK theatres today, 7th September, and will be heading to the US for a 16th November release. It looks absolutely magnificent, so be sure to catch it in cinemas when it arrives near you. For now, here are the beautiful TV spots for you to enjoy as we head into the weekend.
