Last night’s 74th Golden Globe Awards saw La La Land sweep the board as it won all seven of the awards that it was nominated for. The modern day musical was tipped to take many of the top prizes but the Damien Chazelle written and directed movie starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling ended up setting a new record collecting those seven awards.

It’s possibly a little surprising to see Manchester by the Sea bringing in just the one Golden Globe award for Casey Affleck in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category but this is the year that La La Land seems set to shine. That said, Moonlight (which took Best Motion Picture in the drama category) is the one to watch at the Oscars alongside Manchester by the Sea in what we think will be a three-horse race for the top spot in the Best Film category.

Joining La La Land were a whole host of our fellow Brits who fared very well at the Golden Globe awards ceremony. Tom Hiddleston took home the award for Best Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie for The Night Manager, while the amazing Olivia Colman brought home the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited Series or TV Movie also for The Night Manager and Hugh Laurie completed The Night Manager trilogy winning Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Limited Series or TV Movie. The Night Manager is based on the novel by John le Carré’s of the same name which tells the story of a night porter who is recruited by the British government to infiltrate an arms dealers inner circle by becoming a felon himself while keeping the mission a secret from his co-workers.
Netflix’s The Crown star Claire Foy won the award for Best Actress In A Television Drama Series. The show was been a huge hit for the streaming service and the huge amount they reportedly spent on the show will no doubt be justified as these first awards of no doubt many start to roll in.
