Ben Affleck’s Argo debuted at Telluride and TIFF last month to very positive early reviews – you can read our review here – and emerged as a strong contender in the coming awards season.

The film will be released in the US next weekend, and Warner Bros. have put out 10 TV spots to promote its arrival on the big screen.

“Based on true events, Warner Bros. Pictures’ and GK Films’ dramatic thriller “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis–the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.”

Affleck leads the cast as expert exfiltrator, Tony Mendez, and stars alongside a fantastic ensemble, headed up by John Goodman, Scoot McNairy, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, Kyle Chandler, Taylor Schilling, Clea DuVall, and Tate Donovan.

Chris Terrio has penned the script, adapting the fascinating original 2007 Wired article by Joshuah Bearman, How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran, which you can (and should) read here.

Following its US release next weekend, the film will be making its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, and naturally it’s one of the films we’re all most looking forward to seeing there this month.

Argo will be released in the US next Friday, 12th October, and will be coming to the UK after the LFF for a 7th November release. I can’t wait. This promises to be one of the best films of the year. For now, here are the various TV spots to give you a taste of what we have to look forward to from Affleck’s third time behind the camera. Enjoy.
