Back in the good old days of 2008 a trailer was screened that stunned cinema audiences around the world. It appeared from nowhere, was not publicised in any way and spread across the internet by way of mobile phone footage; it didn’t even have a name. That was our introduction to Cloverfield.

We were still in the thrall of Lost and J.J. Abrams could seemingly do no wrong. The footage we saw was of a house party in New York go terribly wrong when something unseen crashes through the distant streets, destroying landmarks and carving through buildings. It’s a masterpiece of marketing. I’ve included it here because it’s relevant to the new trailer you’re all here for.

Cloverfield was marketed heavily as The Godzilla Witch Project and did pretty well at the box office. Director Matt Reeves and Abrams did talk of a sequel, but that it would be something quite different. They both moved on to other things and the Cloverfield trail went cold.

Until today, when this beauty dropped on us….

A new film, in the same universe as Cloverfield and previously titled Valencia, has now been given a new name: 10 Cloverfield Lane. John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. appear in this trailer stuck in a bunker – presumably set just as the monster makes its way out of the city.

UPDATED: The film’s first poster is here!

As before the trailer is a giant tease and all eyes are now on this one, set for release on the 8th of April this year. If you’ve not seen the director’s work before you have to check out Dan Trachtenberg’s amazing Portal film, which I’ve included below.

Another secret movie from Abrams…can’t wait.
